Chapter 2 - Jealousy

"She what?!? Porthos gasped. "Why didn't she tell us that she'll be leaving for Normandy, what will she do there? Where will she live? Who is she with?" Porthos' questions is making D'Artagnan dizzy

" Hold it Porthos!"
" I am just worried about Renee... she doesn't have anywhere to go" said Porthos
"I understand however it was her decision to go back to Normandy... permanently." D'Artagnan's voice notched up a volume on the last word. " That stubborn woman.Was she really thinking we're mad at her ?" Porthos exclaimed " I want to go to Normandy, grab her hair and drag her back to Paris " Porthos said with his hands on his waist and a big grin on his face. D'Artagnan and Porthos burst out laughing Athos on the other hand stayed quiet, he too is worried about Renee... the feeling of worrying for her is strange to him. Before, he trusted aramis' strength and wits... he knew that Aramis could beat every single enemy she come up against... now it's different, with Renee he is unsure.He wondered to himself if Renee could protect herself.If she could get by without them... without him.

She saw Renee just once... The woman hidden deep within Aramis. There she was, a woman trying so hard to explain herself, why she hid behind uniforms, why she lied to them.He pretended to ignore her plea to be forgiven, he acted as if she she is a complete stranger and that he has no business with her but deep inside he want to extend his help to her, to let her know that their motto still holds some truth in it " All for one, one for all ". But it's too late now.She's gone and god knows if she'll ever return.

" I want to protect you... risk my life for you" he thought to himself , Athos snapped out from these thoughts "Wait! where did those thoughts came from?" He knows that something is wrong with what he's feeling however it seems right... after all Renee is his friend.Or is she starting to mean something more?

Days passed by like falling leaves, soon the cold winds starts blowing, a certain joy enwraps the city of Paris as Christmas drew nearer. Athos. Porthos and D'Artagnan were having dinner at Monsieur Bonaceaux's place.

" Well it's going to be a happy Christmas I assure you D'Artagnan, the king will throw a ball and there will be festivities everywhere... food, women and let's not forget overflowing wines!!!" Porthos exclaimed happily while D'Artagnan's eyes sparkled like that of a little child.

" I hope Aramis could spend Christmas with us " D'Artagnan pouted.
" We'll I got a letter from her wishing us happy holidays" Porthos proudly showed it " she also wrote that she is doing fine with her life in Normandy, she swore that she is not causing any troubles nor joined the corps in Normandy... " said Porthos. " I received a letter from her too,so don't feel so special" D'Artagnan rolled his eyes. With that Athos snorted " So I guess I'm the only one who has not received a word from her... I'm beginning to feel left out. " there's a hint of jealousy in his voice. The two other men were silenced by his remarks.

D'Artagnan noticed how Athos' mood worsened the next day, he is thinking that it has something to do with not receiving a letter from Renee when he and Porthos did.

"Why do you think Renee never sent a word to Athos?" D'Artagnan said while dodging Porthos' sword. " Well I do not know... but believe me they'll work it out somehow... in the meantime mind our duel please"

After the long tedious practice... which Porthos and D'Artagnan prefers to call a duel, they walked into the stable where they found Athos tending his horse, he has a rifle slung over his shoulder and he seem as if he is preparing for a long journey. The brown bag affixed to his horse suggested that he brought some personal things with him.

Porthos and D'Artagnan exchanged puzzled looks,

" You're leaving for a mission?" Asked Porthos.
"Yes." Came the short and cold reply. " So where are we headed? Who needs our protection Athos?"
"No one and there is no we... I'm going alone " Athos shot back.

Porthos is now getting annoyed with Athos' coldness.
" You know... you haven't been yourself lately... tell me, is it about Renee?"
" Why would you think that?" Athos asked.
"You began acting strangely since we found out Aramis is a woman, when you dismissed her because of that petty reason!"

"You are imagining things, I have not change one bit... I should say stop your meaningless assumptions and start making yourself useful. " then Athos quickly ride out. The two men were left behind still puzzled as to where their friend is headed.

" There's no stopping him, really ... once he has his mind set on one thing he'll do everything to accomplish it" Porthos and D'Artagnan turn to see their Captain. " Sire, he said he is off to a mission... " Porthos said.

"I know but certainly it wasn't me who gave him his orders" said Capt. Treville.

It seems to me Athos will go after Renee...
(Oh by the way in the Japanese version the woman name of Aramis is Lune short for Lunette)

we will see... LOL

i think the discrepancy on the pronunciation is due to the fact that
the japanese language/alphabet does not have the letter R
though i found references that aramis' name could also be pronounce as renee
the female counterpart of rene which is aramis' real name
